Carbonbuster: Advanced Carburizing Stop-Off Paint for Heat Treatment Processes

Carbonbuster is an innovative, water-soluble carburizing stop-off paint designed to prevent unwanted carbon absorption during gas carburizing and carbonitriding processes. As a high-performance masking paint, Carbonbuster provides exceptional protection while maintaining ease of removal, making it an essential solution for industries that require precise surface hardening control.

What is Carburizing and Why Use Stop-Off Paint?

Carburizing is a heat treatment process where iron or steel absorbs carbon at high temperatures to enhance hardness, strength, and wear resistance. This process is widely used in automotive, aerospace, medical, firearms, and manufacturing industries to improve the longevity and performance of metal components. However, in applications where selective hardening is necessary, a carburizing stop-off paint is applied to designated areas to prevent carbon penetration.

How to use / Points to note

Usage
Degreasing
Before applying the CARBONBUSTER, degrease and clean the surface of the treated parts well to ensure that they are free of grease and dust.
Stirring
Stir evenly and thoroughly before use.
Application
Apply by a brush, dipping, or automatic machine with a viscosity that is easy to apply. To increase the stop-off effect, allow the surface to dry after the first application and then apply a second coat.
Dilution
If the viscosity is too high, or if water evaporates during use and the viscosity becomes high, adjust it to a level that is easy to apply using the dedicated diluent "CARBONBUSTER LIQUID".
Thickness
As a guide, the thickness of the coating film should be 0.3 to 1.5 mm.
Drying
Dry at room temperature for approximately 4 to 8 hours. Forced drying should be performed by natural drying for 1 to 2 hours after application, followed by forced drying with hot air or in a drying oven at a temperature of 70°C to 100°C.
Precautions after Drying
If the coated film is left for a long period of time after drying is complete, the film may absorb moisture, resulting in degrading stop-off performance. Therefore, process the parts as soon as possible after drying.
Removal
After carburizing, the coated film should be washed and removed with warm water at 70-90 C. In the case of warm water, it is recommended to wash the treated product with a few percent alkaline cleaning and rust inhibitor to prevent rusting. (We offer recommended products.) Remove CARBONBUSTER 600 with a wire, brush, or sandblasting.
Precautions
Handling
When handling the product, wear glasses, gloves, etc. and be careful not to allow droplets to adhere directly to your skin. If it gets on your skin, wash it immediately with water.
Eye Contact
Rinse eyes with clean water for at least 15 minutes and then seek immediate medical attention from an eye doctor.
Ingestion
Immediately spit out the product and seek medical attention. If the product remains in the mouth, gargle thoroughly with water.
Storage
Keep the container tightly sealed and stored indoors in a well-ventilated place out of direct sunlight. Avoid locations where temperatures fall below 0°C to avoid freezing.
Accidental Release
If the amount is small, wipe it off with a rag. If the amount is large, fill the area with dirt or sand to block the outflow and collect it in an empty container, etc.
Disposal
Disposal should be consigned as solid waste to a duly licensed industrial waste disposal contractor or local public agency that has the capacity to dispose of it. Containers should be disposed of after completely removing the paint inside.
Regulatory Information
Applicable Laws: PRTR Law Type | No.304: Water Pollution Prevention Law (WashingWastewater)
